Pillars of Adversity
A Teaching Memoir
Written by Sara Corckran
Two years ago, a dear friend of mine, who is also an author, inspired me to start writing my story. She suggested that I pick up my pen, find a comfortable place, and start writing my journey without any destination.
Over the course of the next two years, I dove head first into self-discovery, exploring my past and integrating positive psychology tools, resilience skills, and coaching questions into my narrative. I usually found myself writing with a cup of tea, soft music playing in the background, and my dog, Oliver, by my side.
The process was deeply satisfying. I wrote on planes, on trains, while sitting on soccer fields, in the pick up line for school and and in libraries. This aimless writing turned out to be therapeutic, helping me make sense of my cancer journey and the shared experiences with my husband and sister-in-law.
It reinforced everything I had learned and reminded me of the values I want to continue upholding in my life. Eventually, I decided to publish my story, hoping that my perspective might resonate with others.
I'm throwing my backpack over the fence, leaving no room for turning back. My book is on its way. If you're interested in knowing about the launch date, please sign up below.
